01 — BITCOIN & DOGECOIN

From conviction
to checkout

For Musk, cryptocurrency has long been more than a passing topic. His public affection for Dogecoin is particularly clear: in 2019, he suggested it might be his favorite cryptocurrency. [1]

Bitcoin occupies a different place in the Tesla story. The company’s 2025 annual report records bitcoin among its digital assets and describes the effect of changes in its value on earnings. That is a concrete financial relationship, documented in a corporate filing. It does not, by itself, tell us what Musk privately feels or promise that the company will hold the asset forever. [2]

Dogecoin’s role is more tangible for shoppers. Tesla’s support page explains how to buy eligible merchandise using a Dogecoin wallet. A Dogecoin symbol identifies qualifying products; the checkout supplies a wallet address and an amount to send. This is a real, limited payment use case—not a statement that Tesla vehicles can be bought with Dogecoin. [3]

IMAGINED INTERVIEW — NOT REAL

XTcoin — an imagined conversation

Interviewer: “What would you call a coin inspired by X and Tesla?”

Elon Musk: “XTcoin, perhaps. X for X, T for Tesla.”

Interviewer: “A new name for Dogecoin?”

Elon Musk: “Only in this fictional naming exercise. We are imagining a name, not reporting a plan.”

This interview is entirely fictional. The words attributed to Elon Musk were invented by the author. XTcoin is an imagined name here, not a project or renaming plan announced by Musk, Tesla, X, or Dogecoin.

02 — X & THE PAYMENT QUESTION

Attention is only
the beginning

X, formerly Twitter, adds another dimension: a place where conversations about money can sit beside ways to support creators. Its help center describes Tips, including Bitcoin tips sent through third-party services outside X. Users can add a Bitcoin address to their profiles. That distinction is important: linking to payment services is different from running a native cryptocurrency payment network. [4]

The documentation cited here does not establish a native Dogecoin checkout on X or a Tesla–X cryptocurrency. Those ideas should remain separate from the features a reader can actually verify.

The more interesting story is the difference between these roles: Bitcoin as a corporate asset, Dogecoin as an eligible merchandise payment method, and X as a platform that can point users toward outside payment tools. Together, they show why Musk attracts attention in crypto. They also show why each integration deserves to be understood on its own terms.
